Definition Of Sentence
The sentence refers to words that are finished in itself, commonly containing a subject and predicate, passing on an announcement, question, outcry, or order, and comprising of a primary condition and in some cases at least one subordinate provisos.
Kinds Of Sentence
The sentence is of five types. They are:
- Assertive
- Interrogative
- Imperative
- Optative
- Exclamatory
Definition Of Assertive Sentence
The assertive sentence is a basic learning tool for beginners who want to learn English. For the new learners, an assertive sentence must be learned carefully.
What is an Assertive sentence? It’s a statement about an event, person, animal, or thing.
Example of Assertive sentence
We are learning grammar.
People are protesting tyranny.
We play football.
Namir is a good boy.
Kinds of Assertive Sentence
- Affirmative
- Negative
Structure of Affirmative Sentence
1. Subject + verb + Complement.
Examples:
Life is short. The honest are happy. Ramzan was the first boy in our class.
Akhter was a former chairman. She looks pretty.
2. Subject + Verb + Object.
Examples:
The moon shines at night. The sun rises in the east. The patient had died before the doctor came.
Structure of Negative Sentence
- Subject + Auxiliary verb+ not + Principal verb (if) + Complement.
Examples:
Life is not a bed of rose. The rich are not always happy. He does not seem sad.
2. Subject + Auxiliary verb+ not + Principal Verb + Object.
Examples:
We should not work carelessly. The boy does not learn his lessons properly.
The corrupt are not loved by all.
Definition Of Interrogative Sentence
It makes a question. An interrogative sentence is used to ask in the manner of knowing someone or something.
Structure of Interrogative Sentence
- To be verb+ Subject + Compliment?
- Auxiliary verb + Sub + main verb + Extension?
- Do/ did/ does + sub + Main verb + extension?
- Wh word + main verb + extension?
- Wh word + auxiliary verb + sub + main verb + extension?
- Wh word + to be verb + sub?

An imperative sentence is used for making order, request, command, and forbid. In this lesson, we will learn how to make imperative sentences in English.
Imperative Sentence expresses an order, advice, request, etc.
Structures of Imperative Sentence: Verb1
- Verb + object….. full stop.
- Do not + verb + object…. Full stop.
- Please/ kindly/ Always/ Never + verb + object …. full stop.
- Let + subject + verb + object…… full stop.

Optative sentence implies a desire, a prayer, or a blessing.
Structures Of Optative Sentence
1) May + you / Allah/ God+ verb …… full stop.
2) Long live + subject …… full stop.
3) Would that + sub + verb …… full stop.
4) Had + sub ……. full stop.
5) I wish I were…… full stop.
Examples Of Optative Sentence
- May you be happy.
- May Allah save you.
- Long live our country.

Definition of Exclamatory Sentence
An exclamatory sentence is the expression of sorrow, happiness, hatred, and boredom. When people get wondered, they use some phrases to express their inner feelings. An exclamatory sentence shows a strong emotion of joy or sorrow of mind.

- How + adjective + subject+ verb!
- What a/ an +adjective +subject + verb!
- What a/an + noun + subject + verb!
- Alas! How + adjective + subject + verb.
- Oh!/ Ah!+ How+ adjective + subject + verb.
- Bravo/ Hurrah!+ subject+ verb …. full stop.
